About the Author
GABRIEL BURSTEIN, PhD, was a macro proprietary trader with Goldman Sachs. He currently heads Specialized Equity Sales & Trading at Daiwa Europe Ltd., London, a group he set up to sell European equity products to hedge funds based on long/short macro and relative-value ideas. He is a frequent speaker on new long/short macro strategies and the EMU at worldwide alternative investment and hedge fund conferences. Dr. Burstein received his PhD in mathematics from Imperial College of the University of London. He has had several papers published in mathematical control theory and in mathematical modeling in neurology, neuroendocrinology, and HIV immunology.

Not advanced - not simple

I cannot be overly critical of this book merely due to my own preconceived notions of what it might be. I was expecting some sort of more hands-on version of Soros' "Alchemy". What I got was nothing of the kind. The trade examples are very simplistic and the book poorly constructed, laid out, and written. The entire work could be 2-3 chapters in normal prose and outline. The strategies discussed were somewhat advanced strategies that were described in an extremely simplistic manner. Somewhat akin to Sesame Street giving instructions on how to manage an options book. I was sorely disappointed as I know the author is capable of delivering a much more intriguing work.

The book is based on ex post iteration of events and investment strategies, which lacks the necessary foundation of macroeconomic introduction. It requires extensive knowledge of macroeconomics and finance in order to grasp (or digest) what the ideas behind strategies are. Clearly not for a beginner but I would not recommend it for an experienced fund manager at all. I found most of the examples and strategies highly simple.

Not really that good.......

When I first saw this book and ordered it i was very excited to learn more about the intricies of macro trading. After reading about 1/2 of the book I could tell I just wasted $40. I found that the authors comparison of two different variables on 1 graph with 2 Y axis was statistically wrong. You cannot compare two different variables on absolute movement at all, espically when you are using two different scales on the same graph. Using this method of comparison sun-spots and the S&P500 have correlated. The correct way to do this is by comparing percentage movement of the two different variables. By doing this with my previos example there is no real correlation, jsut as one would think. I would assume that the same would occur for 1/2 of this books graphs.

All in all, buy, Market-Neutral Investing : Long/Short Hedge Fund Strategies by Joseph G. Nicholas, You'll apperciate it alot more and it isn't flawed like the book on this page!

The Importance of Nalanda to Buddhism cannot be overestimated

I have visited Nalanda several times over the last 30 years and seen ongoing archaeological work, albeit slowly, because of the sheer size of Nalanda Buddhist University and the universal lack of funding for this sort of work. For at least 600 years, thousands of students studied mathematics, medicine, logic, literature, linguistics not to speak of Buddhism. A foreign student in the 7th century reported 1510 teachers at the university. Mahayana Buddhism took shape here under such scholars as Chandrakirti, Nagarjuna, Naropa, Dinnaga, Dharmakirti and Tantric Buddhism under Padmasambhava. Chinese monks such as Xuangzang studied here and returned with knowledge and manuscripts to China. The library at Nalanda is estimated to have held hundreds of thousands of texts. Some sutras exist today because they were returned in Sanskrit to China, translated into Chinese, later lost in Sanskrit and then translated back from Chinese. Certainly Nalanda is the source of the Mahayana Buddhism of China.

The end of the useful life of the University and Monastery in the 13th century at the hands of invaders is secure. I have a photo of a friend with the palm of his hand near the base of wall cradling a few grains of burned rice. However, while it coincides with the vanishing of Buddhism in India, the cause of the two is not the same and is hotly debated.

Nalanda is located near the ancient city of Rajgrih, now modern Rajgir. It is the location of Vulture Peak where the Buddha meditated frequently and the “Bamboo Grove” the first “forest monastery” donated by King Bimbasara for the Buddha and his followers to pass the rainy season.

This is the volume 2 of the novels, not the manga.

So yeah, I made the mistake and bought this thinking it was volume 2 of the manga, but it's actually the second light novels, so now I have volume 1 of the manga, and volume 2 of the light novels.
It still follows the same storyline and all, and is still good, but be aware of which format it is you're buying. I really wish they would make it more obvious on Amazon so that idiots like me don't get confused.

Not what I expected, but still a good purchase if you like LNs

Ordered this expecting the manga version....and after viewing the comments I'm glad I wasn't alone on this, but instead got the light novel. Which means I have Vol. 1 Manga and Vol. 2 light novel. I wish amazon had some indicator of what you were getting. I just found it strange since Vol. 1 was also ordered from here earlier this year...and has no option to buy the light novel of Vol. 1. However minutes after receiving the item contacted amazon, and they said they were willing to issue me a full refund and I don't have to return the item. Which was awful nice of them. The light novel itself is really great. The light novels of manga often go into much more detail than the manga/anime. Its basically the same thing, but explains a it more.

A good continuation

Was expecting ths light novel, and that's what I got.
A good read for fans of the anime or the first volume. Though there's some odd translations and/or typos, they can be overlooked in favour of the quality of the story.

Fantastic Object

As a die hard lover of Mark Ryden's work, this is truly a gem. While it is tiny, and thusly the images are tiny, it is a wonderful object to have. It does contain many high quality images of Mark rydens most iconic blood covered children,which are amazingly beautiful and moving. It is also bound in red leather. Not only does it contain Mark Ryden's art, it becomes an art objects in and of itself. Lovely!

About the Author
DAVID POLLOCK is currently the executive director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the San Fernando Valley. Along with a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Mr. Pollock has 30 years experience in sales, marketing, and management, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Christian Management Association. He is the author of several books including Business Management in the Local Church, and articles dealing with nonprofit management subjects including finance, personnel, and fund raising, and has been heard on Larry Burkett's nationally syndicated radio program, Money Matters. David and his wife, Beverly, live in Winnetka, California, and have two grown children and two grandchildren.

This volume covers many aspects of church life. Some are more helpful than others. But it makes a good reference tool when an opinion on a particular area of church management is necessary. It is not the definative answer on any topic but provides insights that can inform process, procedures and directions management can take.
