A Natural Cure for Wrinkles, As Close As Your Kitchen Cabinet?

Can a simple drink you make in your kitchen really reduce wrinkles like magic? This author says it worked for him, and is working for others.

If you're spending a ton of money on anti-aging treatments and creams or pills with little to show for it - Stop! This could be the wrinkle cure you're looking for.

Pump Up Your Body's Own Natural Wrinkle Preventer

Scientists have known for some time why we get wrinkles and develop other signs of age, such as sagging cheeks, as we get older. Our bodies simply stop producing enough of the substance that is required to keep our skin smooth and elastic.

The solution is to find some way of either stepping up our natural production of that substance, or getting it from outside in a form that our bodies can readily use to feed both our skin and the underlying tissues. That's what Sip Away Your Wrinkles is about.

A simple drink you make in your kitchen can have you looking and feeling years younger. The author tells how to prepare and use his anti-aging recipe from a couple of inexpensive, natural ingredients, and explains why it works not only to prevent wrinkles, but to remove existing fine lines and even deep creases.

Although the drink itself is easy and cheap to make, the author goes into much more:

  • How to boost the power of the drink's ingredients
  • How to eat and exercise to speed your results
  • Other benefits you can expect from the drink along with erasing wrinkles and slowing aging
Not Just an Anti-wrinkle Recipe

While the special wrinkle-erasing drink is at the core of this book, you'll also get:
  • Alternatives to the basic anti-wrinkle drink that still deliver the same antiaging ingredients to your body
  • "Reinforcers" - recommendations for diet, exercise, and affirmations to support and accelerate your anti-aging regimen
  • Tips on purchasing and making optimal use of the recommended anti-wrinkle ingredients.
  • 45 "wrinkle erasers" - a list of other natural wrinkle cures that have worked for others, and that can be used in addition to taking the drink twice a day

Sip Away Your Wrinkles is all substance, no fluff. And it is so simple that you might be tempted to dismiss it as too simple to really work. That would be a mistake.

The author says: "I urge you to try it, just as I've laid it out. I think you'll learn to your delight that often the simplest solutions for getting rid of wrinkles and looking younger are the most effective."

Maybe you've tried it all when it comes to anti-wrinkle products and treatments. Under-eye serums. Wrinkle creams. Retinol. Exotic exfoliants. Masks. Anti-wrinkle gels and lotions. Hyaluronic acid. Stretch mark ointment (yes, some folks put this on their faces!). Patches ... etc., etc. You know that these cost a lot of money, and often don't give the results you hoped for.

Imagine all this:
  • Watching fine lines around your eyes and elsewhere disappear
  • Seeing deep wrinkles and creases diminish or even vanish from your face
  • Finally scrapping those harsh chemicals and expensive products with their unknown and possibly harmful side effects
  • Seeing positive results in just a few weeks.
H. Tim Sevets has come up with what could be the best way to get rid of wrinkles currently available, a home remedy that is as effective as it is easy and inexpensive.

Had some great natural skincare tips, but nothing you wouldn't be able to get from the Internet. I'm sure it will be a good read for someone who isn't vegetarian or vegan. Gelatin is involved.

Excellent adventure!
By Richard
This novel is very typical of Haggard's adventure stories. This one in particular somewhat reminded me of "Montezuma's Daughter"... It was a story of an extraordinarily beautiful Indian princess and a white Englishman who fall in love and who must suffer through much because of their deep feelings for one another. The story is told by Ignation (an Indian) who was the friend of both the white man and his beloved Maya. Most of the later part of the novel takes place in the great City of the Heart which is beautiful and yet venomous and deadly... Of course there are "bad men" and "bad women" who do not fully understand the great love of Maya and James (the princess and her white men) and without whom the story would have no conflict or much of a plot... :) So do read the book. It is neither essential to life nor does it provoke any great thoughts or ideas, but nonetheless it is very enjoyable and relaxing.

Aztec Two-Step
By s.ferber
Although I had previously read and hugely enjoyed no fewer than 40 novels by H. Rider Haggard, I yet felt a trifle nervous before beginning the author's "Heart of the World." I had recently finished Haggard's truly excellent novel of 1893, "Montezuma's Daughter"--a novel that deals with the downfall of the Aztec empire in the early 16th century--and was concerned that "Heart of the World," which I knew to be still another story dealing with the Aztecs, would necessarily be repetitive. As it turns out, however, I needn't have worried. Despite the Aztec backdrop, the two novels are as dissimilar as can be; whereas the first deals with an Englishman witnessing the Indian conflicts with Cortes from 1519-1521 and the fall of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, "HOTW" takes place a good three centuries later. Written by Haggard from November 1893-February 1894, the novel was serialized in "Pearson's Weekly" and later published in book form in March 1896. The novel was Haggard's 18th, out of an eventual 58, and following as it did three of the author's greatest creations--"Nada the Lily," "Montezuma's Daughter" and "The People of the Mist"--demonstrated that H. Rider was very much near the top of his game during this period, a full decade after coming out with the phenomenally popular "King Solomon's Mines," "Allan Quatermain" and "She."

"HOTW" takes the form of a manuscript written by the Mexican Indian Don Ignatio, close to the end of his 62 years. In it, he tells of the great adventure that he'd had in the mid-19th century, alongside the English miner James Strickland. The lineal descendant of Guatemoc, last of the Aztec emperors, Ignatio has dedicated his life to the fulfillment of a dream: the unification of the Mexican peoples and the ouster of the Spanish influence. Ultimately, the pair comes in contact with Zibalbay, head priest and ruler of the People of the Heart--who dwell in the legendary Lost City of Gold--along with his beautiful daughter, Maya. As it turns out, Zibalbay's goals are the same as Ignatio's, and so the four travel to the lost city, the titular Heart of the World, encountering many hardships on the trail. But once arrived at the legendary island city (which the reader infers is somewhere beyond the Guatemalan border), their troubles are only beginning, as politics and a love triangle go a long way in destroying their cherished plans....

Longtime readers of Haggard will not be surprised to learn what an incredibly action-packed and exciting book "HOTW" is. Before our adventurers even arrive at the lost city, Haggard has treated us to a mine cave-in, a gun battle with a band of killers, the mother of all storms at sea, a shipwreck (a shipwreck had already been featured in Haggard's 1888 novel "Mr. Meeson's Will" and in "Montezuma's Daughter," and would also figure largely in later novels such as 1906's "Benita" and 1929's "Mary of Marion Isle"), a swordfight, a run-in with nasty father and son smugglers, a battle on top of a ruined jungle pyramid, an almost lethal snakebite, and a trek across both desert and mountains. Haggard throws an enormous lot into his book to please the reader, and his four main characters are an interesting bunch. Ignatio, our narrator, is especially likable, being at once humble, shrewd, and dedicated to his cause, while Strickland comes across as a typically good-hearted, brave and handsome Englishman; the sort that the author loved to depict, and very much in the Leo Vincey mold, from "She." Zibalbay strongly resembles many former and future white-bearded patriarch figures in the Haggard pantheon (I am thinking most especially of Oro, in the 1919 novel "When the World Shook"), while Maya must be added to the very long list of Haggardian women who have sacrificed all for love. (It is remarkable what a lengthy roster of strong female characters Haggard managed to amass over the course of his career; I can think of no author, offhand, who even comes close.) The author treats his readers to detailed descriptions of his Heart of the World, both physical descriptions and details about the people's lives, customs and religion, and it is all fairly fascinating stuff. As always, Haggard's ruminations on various matters creep into his book; his thoughts regarding death, as expressed via Ignatio, are very moving indeed. (Haggard had lost his son, "Jock," two years before writing this book.) "HOTW" may be a touch less exciting than "Montezuma's Daughter," a bit less crammed with incident, and lacks a strong central villain on the order of the earlier book's Juan de Garcia (although there ARE minor rogues and badmen aplenty). Still, it is a highly satisfying creation, sure to provide many nights of excitement; a true page-turner, and all that. Ignatio, before setting down his tale, tells us "I fear that my skill in writing is small." Humble as always, the old Indian was wrong in this regard. It turns out that he could spin a tale alongside the best of them!

  • The Aeneid (/ɨˈniːɪd/; Latin: Aenēis [ae̯ˈneːɪs]) is a Latin epic poem, written by Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. It comprises 9,896 lines in dactylic hexameter. The first six of the poem's twelve books tell the story of Aeneas's wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the poem's second half tells of the Trojans' ultimately victorious war upon the Latins, under whose name Aeneas and his Trojan followers are destined to be subsumed. The hero Aeneas was already known to Greco-Roman legend and myth, having been a character in the Iliad, composed in the 8th century BC. Virgil took the disconnected tales of Aeneas's wanderings, his vague association with the foundation of Rome and a personage of no fixed characteristics other than a scrupulous pietas, and fashioned this into a compelling founding myth or national epic that at once tied Rome to the legends of Troy, explained the Punic wars, glorified traditional Roman virtues and legitimized the Julio-Claudian dynasty as descendants of the founders, heroes and gods of Rome and Troy.

    Amazon.com Review
Arma virumque cano: "I sing of warfare and a man at war." Long the bane of second-year Latin students thrust into a rhetoric of sweeping, seemingly endless sentences full of difficult verb forms and obscure words, Virgil's Aeneid finds a helpful translator in Robert Fitzgerald, who turns the lines into beautiful, accessible American English. Full of betrayal, heartache, seduction, elation, and violence, the Aeneid is the great founding epic of the Roman empire. Its pages sing of the Roman vision of self, the Roman ideal of what it meant to be a citizen of the world's greatest power. The epic's force carries across the centuries, and remains essential reading.

    From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Princeton scholar Fagles follows up his celebrated Iliad and Odyssey with a new, fast-moving, readable rendition of the national epic of ancient Rome. Virgil's long-renowned narrative follows the Trojan warrior Aeneas as he carries his family from his besieged, fallen home, stops in Carthage for a doomed love affair, visits the underworld and founds in Italy, through difficult combat, the settlements that will become, first the Roman republic, and then the empire Virgil knew. Recent translators (such as Allen Mandelbaum) put Virgil's meters into English blank verse. Fagles chooses to forgo meter entirely, which lets him stay literal when he wishes, and grow eloquent when he wants: "Aeneas flies ahead, spurring his dark ranks on and storming/ over the open fields like a cloudburst wiping out the sun." A substantial preface from the eminent classicist Bernard Knox discusses Virgil's place in history, while Fagles himself appends a postscript and notes. Scholars still debate whether Virgil supported or critiqued the empire's expansion; Aeneas' story might prompt new reflection now, when Americans are already thinking about international conflict and the unexpected costs of war. Fagles's new version of Virgil's epic delicately melds the stately rhythms of the original to a contemporary cadence. Having previously produced well-received translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey, he illuminates the poem's Homeric echoes while remaining faithful to Virgil's distinctive voice. Pious Aeneas, passionate Dido, and raging Turnus are driven by the desires and rivalries of the gods-but even the gods recognize their obeisance to fate, and to the foretold Roman Empire that will produce Augustus, Virgil's patron. The excellent introduction, by Bernard Knox, gives historical and literary context, and both Knox and Fagles convincingly argue the epic's continuing relevance. Fagles, writing of Virgil's sense of "the price of empire," notes that "it seems to be a price we keep on paying, in the loss of blood and treasure, time-worn faith and hard-won hope, down to the present day."

    Very readable
    By SkookumPete
There is no such thing as a "best" translation, only translations that suit one's purpose. If you want to read the Aeneid as a gripping story, Fagles's version does very well. I have just finished reading book 4, and Dido's fury, as set against the implacable higher purpose of Aeneas, has perhaps never been as vividly, even scarily, portrayed.

On the other hand, it could be argued that Fagles's verse does not convey the stately or epic quality of the Latin in the way that, for instance, Fitzgerald's does. A short comparison may suffice:

"sed nullis ille mouetur / fletibus aut uoces ullas tractabilis audit; / fata obstant placidasque uiri deus obstruit auris." (Vergil)

"But no tears move Aeneas now. / He is deaf to all appeals. He won't relent. / The Fates bar the way / and heaven blocks his gentle, human ears." (Fagles)

"But no tears moved him, no one's voice would he / Attend to tractably. The fates opposed it; / God's will blocked the man's once kindly ears." (Fitzgerald)

Fitzgerald's version is closer to the Latin (other than not using the present tense), better reflects its formal nature, and achieves a Vergilian metrical effect with the three successive beats of "God's will blocked." But Fagles's free and fluid rendition is undoubtedly more engaging to the modern reader.

Occasionally Fagles does introduce a modern idiom that is trite or jarring. For instance, when the sea-nymph speeds Aeneas's ship on its way in Book 10, she does so skillfully ("haud ignara modi") because she "knows the ropes".

The book has a useful introduction, a few notes, and a pronouncing glossary. Fagles's postscript is, however, a tedious pastiche of quotations from previous critics and could have been omitted.

The "other" side of the Trojan war
    By D. Roberts
Publius Vergilius Maro was commisioned by Caesar Augustus to author a national epic for Rome. The work which Virgil composed for this purpose was the Aeneid. It is an epic poem that tells the story of a minor character from Homer's Iliad who leads a rag-tag band from the smouldering ruins of Troy in order to found a "New Troy" to the west: Rome. It is in the Aeneid, not the Iliad (as most people who have not read the works tend to believe) that we see the spectacle of the Trojan Horse & the famous line "I do not trust Greeks bearing gifts." The Iliad ends with the death of Hektor - before the plan of the Trojan Horse is devised by Odysseus. The Odyssey picks up after the sack of Troy. The Aeneid fills in the gaps & narrates the story of the few Trojans who escape the wrath of the Greeks. According to legend, Romulus & Remes (the two brothers who eventually founded the city itself) were descendents of Aeneas. As is usual, Fitzgerald's translation is top notch. I have read Mandelbaum's rendition as well & much prefer Mr. Fitzgerald. The book also contains a useful glossary & postscript which help elucidate the allusions to Hannibal & Cleopatra which the Romans of Virgil's day would have picked up right away, but which might be unfamiliar to modern day readers. Also, it is HIGHLY recommended that one read the Iliad & the Odyssey before embarking on Virgil's work. [...] But, for a quick answer: the reason that Juno (Hera in the Greek) has a vendetta against Aeneas is due to the fact that he is Trojan. This all derives from the judgment of Paris when Juno was "jilted" by the bribe that Aphrodite offered Paris (also a Trojan). To offer any more info at this point would be too great of a digression, but what I will say is that this work is NOT (I repeat NOT) for someone to merely pick up & dive into w/out doing his or her pre-requisite reading. Do your homework, become familiar with the myths & tales of what has gone on before, then read the Aeneid. You will be glad you did, for this is an extraordinary epic. Also, for those who harbor the ambition, the university of Oxford professor Peter Levi has recently written a wonderful, succinct biography of Virgil. "The Death Of Virgil" by Hermann Broch is a mind-blowing masterpiece as well. Indeed, one can never get enough Virgil.

imagine that he almost burned it
    By M. H. Bayliss
Although Virgil spent years writing the Aeneid, by his death, he felt that it was imperfect and asked that it be burned. Luckily for all concerned, his request was denied or we'd never have this epic. If you are new to Greek and Roman epics, I'd recommend starting with the Iliad and the Odyssey first. Not only will most novices find them more readable (especially the Odyssey), any reader will pick up important background information that will help immeasurably in following the Aeneid. Although I'm a huge fan of the Aeneid and have read many of the books in the original Latin, I'd suggest to most readers just to read books 1,2,4 and 6 unless you are really drawn in. It's not that the other books are not great (they are), it's just that unless you are a specialist, you won't want to read all about the battles and extra stuff -- book 4 is the love story of Dido and Aeneus and for many is the highlight of the poem. Book 6 is the trip to to the underworld which is so important to later writers and poets like Dante, TS Eliot, etc.... The fall of Troy is contained in books 1 and 2. I enjoy Fitzgerald's translation, but as an amateur Latinist, I prefer Allan Mandelbaum's translation with Moser's illustrations. When I was translating from the Latin, only Mandelbaum was so close to the original that he could help a student. I think Mandelbaum is a genius for rendering the poem so close to the original. It's unfair to call him wooden -- Virgil wrote the whole thing in Dacytlic hexameter which is hardly wooden in Latin, although it can be repetitive at times. Not to worry -- he used a lot of spondaic substititions (altering a long, short short with a long, long) to vary the meter.
So, if you just want a taste, read books 1,2,4 and 6 and if you love it, by all means read the whole epic.

Practical ways to show care and interest for others.
    By A Customer
In today's society, it's so much easier to NOT care. We don't have time, it's not our job, and besides, that person needs a little tough love, right? If you want to care and need a little encouragement and inspiration read this new book: WHO CARES? Simple Ways YOU Can Reach Out by Marcy Heidish.
This practical book is designed to bring out the caring person in each of us. Marcy Heidish offers simple, specific ways to practice the art of caring, especially within our immediate circle of concern: family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Whether it's a non-intrusive note, an open invitation to lunch, or a tray of cookies, Heidish reminds us of the many little things we can do to open the door to a caring relationship.
Highlighting the roadblocks that sometimes keep the caring self locked inside, she helps us focus on the "basics" of this art: hot to get in touch with our own hesitancies and fears, how to listen sensitively to another, how to develop a ministry of presence.
Drawing on her varied experience as a chaplain, counselor, and teacher, Heidish offers specific ways to express our caring in words, in actions, or by just being there. She points out the common pitfalls of caring that can lead to burnout and reminds us of the joys we discover along the way. A chapter on "specialities" of caring addresses the unique situations of caring for people with AIDS, severe depression, or suicidal behavior.
"I believe that the caring impulse can be translated into everyday action," Heidish says. This book is designed to facilitate such everyday transformations. Her inspiring accounts of ordinary people who care, her wise guidance, and her helpful strategies place the art of caring within reach of us all.
Marcy Heidish has served as a chaplain in hospitals, homeless shelters, jails, and nursing homes, and has trained volunteer ministers in various forms of pastoral care. She has studied widely in the Washington D.C. Consortium of Seminaries and has taught at George Washington, Howard, and Georgetown universities. She is the award-winning author of numerous articles and six novels, including A Woman Called Moses, the noted historical novel about Harriet Tubman which became a TV movie starring Cecily Tyson. - fpeterdolan@worldnet.att.net

    The Beginning of Inspector Banks
    By Jade Bunny
I read the other books in Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series and was glad to be able to read the first 3 books - Gallow's View, A Dedicated Man and A Necessary End. These books give the background of Inspector Banks' relationships with his wife Sandra and Sergeant Hatchley. Peter Robinson's writing is detailed without being boring and seamless going from one scene to the next. Inspector Banks solves his cases by looking at all the evidence, not just the convenient pieces of evidence.
One inconsistency I did note was that Banks' father had to retire because of angina early in the series but later on in the series he was made redundant due to Thatcher policies.
On the whole, this book was well worth reading.

Polystate: A Thought Experiment in Distributed Government, by Zach Weinersmith

What if governments didn't rule locations, but instead ruled minds? That is the question explored in this eBook.

"Polystate" refers to the idea of a geographic entity in which multiple overlapping states exist, each consisting of citizens who have agreed to the laws of a single non-geographic state. In this sense, the book is a discussion not of a particular form of government, but a meta-government in which each person is free to choose a new constitution on a yearly basis without the encumbrance of relocation.

It is not clear whether such an institution as a Polystate is possible or desirable, but the author sets out to discuss ways in which it might conceivably work, and why it might be desirable.

Too large a subject to tackle in such a short book.
    By Ronald S. Khare
The concept of polystates is nothing more than that - a concept, and unfortunately one that seems to rely almost completely on universal, semi-futuristic technological access. While the logic presented is fairly solid, the foundation is builds itself on is so full of holes that I found it hard to take seriously.

I have great respect for the author and everything he's done (I'm a big fan of SMBC), and I applaud this work in its willingness to explore new ideas. It is, for better or worse, the inevitable product of our digital age - that is, the product of a generation so utterly divorced from the immediacy of place that it could conceive of a world where a person doesn't belong to the here and now, to these trees and the people around them, but rather owe their allegiance to a full abstraction. A stranger among friends, a foreigner in the park down the street, but at home online, with a scattering of people across the planet.

The book itself is well-written and clearly laid out, and Mr. Weinersmith does what he can to avoid too much complexity, so the layperson should be able to follow along. Fans of "what if" and logic/math problems will most likely enjoy it.

Zach Weinersmith is a genius. Period.
    By Matthew W. Conn
This is said with no hyperbole - look at the 10 years plus of SMBC comics - the fact that he has been able to make relevant and funny social commentary while still appealing to the scientific mindset is nothing short of baffling. This book may be a departure from that and games like Trial of The Clone, but is no less brilliant.

Really amazing book to pick up for less than 5 bucks.

Interesting ideas which deserve a bit more systematic approach
    By Tibor Mach
Zach Weinersmith sketches out a hypotetical system where there are many so called "anthrostates" embedded within a larger framework of a "polystate". A polystate is (presumably) a legal institution covering a geographical area (possibly the whole world, but not necessarily so) which lays out a framework of rules within which "anthrostates" function as sort of governments which are not constrained by geography and between which its "citizens" switch freely - that fosters competition and therefore pushes the anthrostates to do a good job in the sense of providing laws that its citizens want (constrained by the existence of other anthrostates and its citizens).

I find the book full of good ideas and arguments, but very sketchy (the author admits that several times himself). One thing that I think is actually missing however, is a discussion of how you actually set up the polystate, enforce it rules and possibly change them (which may not be necessary if they are very basic, such as in his "WS-1" polystate, but still - rarely anything lasts forever in reality).

If you find Polystate ideas interesting you might enjoy a book called "Machinery of freedom" (in particular part III of it) by David D. Friedman (D. is rather important, there are many David Friedmans around). It is available here on Amazon and also legally downloadable for free from his website (easy to google) in a digital version. The system imagined by Friedman, (who is a physicist turned economist), is very similar to that of Weinersmith's - sans the polystate framework - although his word for an "anthrostate" is a "protective agency". He also goes to much more detail in describing how and why laws could be created and maintained and how rules between different agencies/anthrostates could be set up and enforced. While Friedman is of a libertarian persuasion, he does not argue with moral philosophy (as a lot of other libertarians do) but with utilitarian and economic arguments (as does Weinersmith) and in his system a communitarian or any other exotic agency/anthrostate could work as well as long as there are people willing enough to live under such rule - again, much like in a Weinersmith's polystate. He also discusses the issue of defense in more detail than Weinersmith - particularly against foreing nations who do not live in such a system - which indeed might be one of the most challenging issues of these kinds of societies (while wars within that system itself are probably less likely). One can find solutions to some problems raised by Weinersmith and also some additional possible problems (and mostly solutions) that Weinersmith does not mention.

If this were my first confrontation with similar ideas I would probably give it five stars. Since I've read the Machinery first, there was nothing new for me here, but I think it is still a very good book and if you have never thought about a system Zach is imagining, add a star to my rating.

Also, there is an initiative called the Seasteading Institute whose goal is to allow for experimentation with different forms of government by making it possible for people to colonize seas and setting up rules for themselves without the necessity of persuading everyone else in the country. Plus, as the floating cities are designed to be modular, the costs of moving from set of laws (even if assuming the city is not polylegal but has a single law system) to another are lower since you can move with your house (based on the current design proposals also necessarily with a couple of neighbouring houses, because too small platforms are unstable on sea, but still better than nothing). So again, if you like the ideas in Polystate, you might like the Seasteading institute as well. It might be good to note that while some people are fast to label that as a "libertarian scam to create tax havens", there is nothing inherently "libertarian" about the institute and some of the floating cities could run on a communitarian basis or something perhaps even more exotic as well. The idea is to allow for experimentation and observe what works best...which could then perhaps be applied on land as well.
