ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC - loved it!

I have fallen in adoration for Rachael Johns. This is my first experience reading a novel written by Ms Johns and most certainly not the last. I do have a couple of other's on my to-read list, Jilted and Man Drought, which have moved up my list now. Outback Dreams was absolutely fantastic; I loved every aspect of this book and cannot wait to read the companion novels Outback Blaze and Outback Ghost (TBC). This will be one awesome series, with the characters and friendly small town quality, but also the realistic associations with family issues.

Faith Forrester is thirty and attending a boarding school reunion. Everybody there is so successful and happy, or so they appear, that Faith feels jealous and alone. The girls sidle up to Faith and ask about her life. Faith is frozen, with no ring on her finger, is there anything she can say. Working on her family farm, she cannot say she is a successful lawyer or doctor and thinking quick, creates a fiancé. Faith created a fiancé in Daniel Montgomery, known to all as Monty.

Not having accomplished anything in her life, Faith was determined to change it. She pledged to raise money for a charity and hope to win Alumna of the Year by raising the most money. Heading home to an unhappy house, Faith is determined to gain confidence and make a change.

Monty and Faith have been friends since forever. Monty has had a dream of owning his own farm ever since his parent's sold theirs and moved to the city. Devastated by the move Monty is determined to save and work as much as possible to buy that dream farm. Monty is a jack-of-all-trades and the eldest child, his younger brother, Will has Autism and they have had to change their life in order to accommodate to Will's needs.

Since Faith decided Monty was her fiancé, she has been looking at Monty in a new light. Realising how hot and wonderful he is, Faith is going to flaunt her curves. Heading to the pub to celebrate Monty's achievements towards his dreams, Faith shows up in a dress. This is highly unusual for her and everybody was shocked, but in a good way. Monty has had his sights on Ruby, recently returned to Bunyip Bay and all the blokes in town are smitten.

Monty cannot remember ever seeing Faith dressed that nice before. All of a sudden he is thinking about her long legs and beautiful curves. Ruby is next to him, but he can't stop looking at Faith and puts it down to protectiveness. All the blokes are vying for her attention and Monty is worried.

Monty takes Faith to check out an available farm 8 hours away and they spend the weekend camping on the property. Monty is excited to have Faith with him; she is his best mate after all. Reaching Clancy's Breakaway, they are both in awe of the homestead. Beautiful and impressive, they head in and meet the old couple that own it.

Having a good time, they have a few too many drinks, with their heads fuzzy, their hearts break through and heading to bed they kiss. Things turn into more, but will this ruin their lifelong friendship?

The next morning is awkward to say the least and it appears they have crossed a line. Everything in Faith's life lately has gone from bad to worse. Her Father has turned to anger now and Faith only has him as a parent, so nothing is going right.

Can Monty and Faith overcome their awkwardness and discover their true feelings for each other? Will the Barking Ball charity event be a success? What will Faith decide to do with her life? Will Monty get his outback dream?

This was fabulous. The characters had depth and although I got annoyed with Monty at times for his selfishness, I can understand why he held onto his resentment for so long. I loved Faith's strong will and no bars hold attitude, but with a delicate heart she shows she is still a woman. Ms Johns is remarkable; all the research into Autism and the minute detailing throughout the book really brought me into Bunyip Bay and Clancy's Breakaway. I highly recommend this to all romance readers.

Charming Aussie Romance

Australian rural romance author Rachael Johns begins a new trilogy with her latest release, Outback Dreams. This novel, and the two to follow, will be linked by location, set in the small Western Australian town of Bunyip Bay, and will each feature two people finding love.

In Outback Dreams, Johns introduces Faith Forester and Daniel 'Monty' Montgomery. Best friends since childhood, neither is prepared when their feelings for each other begin to change. Faith is suddenly achingly aware of Daniel's rippling six pack and Monty, despite being distracted by a new face in town, finds himself admiring the lean length of Faith's tanned legs. Unwilling to risk their friendship both Faith and Monty ignore the growing heat between them, until they are faced with losing one another.

Faith's and Monty's journey from friends to lovers is the focal point of this novel offering a good balance of conflict, passion and sweet romance. John's easily convinced me that I wanted to see this couple give in to their simmering mutual attraction and to realise that what they each wanted had been right in front of them all along.

Outback Dreams is about more than a simple romance though. In terms of character, Johns' protagonists face personal challenges that they must work through, and have dreams they are working towards. This ensures they are well rounded, believable and easy to relate to.
In terms of the plot, Johns brings attention to issues such as grief, depression and most notably, Autism. I really liked that the author chose to explore the effect of the diagnosis of Monty's younger brother, acknowledging the strain Will's needs placed on Monty in particular. I have to mention though, that I thought Faith's judgement of Monty's resentments a little harsh.

An engaging and charming story of romance, family and community, Outback Dreams is a lovely read and sure to be another winner with her fans.

A delightful rural romance!

Faith and Monty – best friends since childhood where their farms were side by side and they did everything together. Then came the day that Monty’s parents sold their farm and took both Monty and his brother Will to live in Perth. Monty was devastated – as a ten year old child he couldn’t comprehend what his parents were doing; the farm had been in the family for generations – just because Will needed medical care on a constant basis didn’t mean they should move away from everything they’d known and loved all Monty’s life; did it?

Boarding school and college over, both Faith and Monty were adults now – Faith still living on the family farm at Bunyip Bay and Daniel (Monty) Montgomery back and working odd jobs to save enough money to buy his own farm. As the members of the town rallied around her to help, Monty’s dreams of owning his own farm were coming closer to fruition. Unexpectedly though the two best friends were feeling uncomfortable around one another – what was going on? Faith knew she couldn’t lose the friendship she’d cherished her whole life; Monty wasn’t sure what to do…

Outback Dreams by Aussie author Rachael Johns is the first in the Bunyip Bay series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having already read the third and fourth in the series, which I loved, I decided I needed to read the first two. Outback Dreams is a delightful rural romance with characters that I had already met in the later books, so it was like catching up again (though in a back to front way) The descriptions of farm life were authentic and real – Clancy’s Breakaway was beautiful. (I wondered if it’s the author’s home or the one she dreams of having) I especially loved Jenni and Nora. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Outback Dreams.

My choice of PfMP Exam Prep...

In preparation for taking the PfMP exam I tried pretty much everything out there regarding books, tools, etc... and found this one to be the one I used the most. My total prep time for this exam was only around 2-3 weeks - the combination of the online mock tests, material included in the book itself, and additional memory aides were a big factor in preparation for this exam(and passing) in the short time I had allotted. If I could only buy one, I would buy this one...

the book provided some useful consulting frameworks that made portfolio management easier to understand

I started reviewing this book and I agree with most the reviews, both positive and negative. On the positive, the book is well organized with a heavy emphasis on exam preparation and strategy. On the content for the knowledge area, I thought the overview of portfolio management and the unique perspective of the author is refreshing. He simplified a complex discipline into a set of important questions for each of the knowledge areas. This was especially helpful for me as I did not necessarily have experiences in all the domain areas. The key questions were innovative and helpful. Also, the book provided some useful consulting frameworks that made portfolio management easier to understand.

I also agree with some of them the negative comments, but I thought the one star was too critical as most were a matter of preference. Specifically, I thought it was convenient to repeat the question in the answer key, so I did not have to flip back and forth. The explanation in the answer key was suitable since that's the main book anyway (and the author said that much in the intro and on the back cover). There were many graphs and tables, but it's a b/w book (wonder if its color on Kindle). The materials was quite boring and dry, but that's the nature of the topic. I think the biggest negative in the book is a lack of alignment with the ECO. (I emailed the author and Wu mentioned that the ECO is used in their bootcamp and the changes may make it to the book. I also learned that they just receive PMI's REP certification. I may join their bootcamp.)

Most importantly, as I compare this book with the others, it is comparably less expensive with considerably more content and frameworks and practice questions. I hope the author will make improvements based on some of the suggestions here, but I also think it's the best on the market and it deserves 5 stars for using an innovative format.

"Sensible Guide to Passing the PfMP exam" consists of all the key study material needed to pass the PfMP exam. This is the one of the best book available in the market at a very reasonable price. I like the book because it contains almost 400 practice questions.

I recommend the author and hope this book will be useful for other professionals too.

I had the opportunity to study under Dr. Fallin at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. The material covered in his book is highly informative and accurate. The details that Dr. Fallin covered are extensive and the book paints a highly accurate description of the role of black churches in their struggle to obtain true independance in the South.

Great series!

I read book 1, Faelorelyn of the Other world Trilogy and really enjoyed it. This book was even better than the first one and I plan to read the 3rd book, Luathara next. I can't wait to read what happens next for Meghan and Cade. The only negative thing for me are reviews by older adults who complain about a teen's/character's behavior described in a book. I have a teenage daughter who has friends over all the time and they don't all act the same, but the one thing they do have in common is inexperience in life. They do things that to me as a parent and older person may think of as childish, silly or just plain stupid sometimes. It's to be expected. So I totally disagree with those reviews as I'm sure that's what the writer was trying to portray to begin with.....a confused teen or a teen doing something immature at times, etc. I guess for those that don't have a teenager or child they are guessing at what one acts like.

Jenna Johnson weaves such a magical world and if you like this kind of story line then you should buy this book!

potentially good story, but replete with grammatical errors and bogged down by flat characters

I tried to like this book. I really did. I was largely disappointed in the first installment of the series, although I was intrigued enough by the Celtic folklore to finish that one. I was encouraged by the positive reviews of the second book, as the consensus seemed to be that it is much more fast-paced and engaging than the first. And it is--to a degree. I would rate this book 2 1/2 stars if given the option, but I don't think it deserves 3. I should emphasize that I am reading from the perspective of an adult fan of YA fiction (preferably of the dystopian variety, but I can appreciate a good fantasy or sci-fi, as well).

I'll start with the positives: The premise for the story is more or less original. The author does a good job of explaining the Celtic references so that they are understandable to the uninitiated. As far as the characters go, there are a few who are introduced for the first time in Dolmarehn who are relatively well-developed, believable, and even endearing. There is more action in this book than in the first, and I see the greater amount of time spent in the Otherworld as compared to the last book as a good thing.

That brings me to the negatives. First of all, whereas a few of the new characters make for a more engrossing story, almost all of the returning supporting characters detract from the narrative. Meghan's highschool friends are frustratingly underdeveloped, flat, boring, and (particularly in the case of her two male friends) contribute little, if anything, to the plot. Similarly, Meghan's family is largely superfluous; why is it necessary for her to have so many brothers if the author is not going to take the trouble to develop distinct personalities and roles for most of them? Meghan's parents take surprisingly little interest in their teenage daughter's social life and whereabouts, although this is somewhat forgivable, considering the genre. Still, their benign neglect of her, although necessary at times to advance the plot, stretches the limits of plausibility, in my opinion. As for the two main characters, they are better developed, but not particularly likable. Meghan's obsession with her own insecurities is trying at times. She spends the majority of the book doing homework (seriously--there is so much attention devoted to her homework that I felt like I was back in school just reading about it!) and whining to herself about Cade and his intentions. For his part, Cade is so elusive that it is hard to develop any kind of connection with him. He has a habit of showing up unannounced, delivering a cryptic message to Meghan, and disappearing without ever explaining himself. Frustratingly, Meghan never seems to ask the right questions of him.

My other major issue with this book (true of the first one, as well) is that it is full of grammatical errors ("you're" instead of "your," "too" instead of "to," that kind of thing) and, at times, the writing is rather sloppy. Something that stood out to me in both books is the author's extreme overuse of the word "grin." I would say, on average, these characters "grin" at least three times per page. And not only that, but I question whether the author knows the definition of the word. According to Merriam-Webster, to grin is "to draw back the lips to show teeth especially in amusement or laughter." Ok. So what sense does it make for a character's smile to fade to a grin? How, exactly, does one grin sadly? Is there such a thing as a melancholy grin? Is it even possible to grin without showing one's teeth? In my opinion, that's classified as a smile. The only reason I belabor this point is because it came up so many times in both books one and two that I started to cringe every time I encountered the word. For me, it was a major distraction from the narrative.

I doubt that I will read book three unless it is free or I am really, really desperate for reading material.

Engaging Read!!

This is the second installment in the Otherworld series by Jenna Elizabeth Johnson. I had forgotten how much I get caught up in this series! I just love these characters! When I sat down with this book.....IT ALL CAME BACK TO ME. I was hooked once again and was regretful every time I had to put this book down.

This book picks up where we left Meghan after Faelorehn. She has been healing and recouping over the summer after her run in with the Morrigan. While Meghan has been healing she has been a bit reclusive and Cade has been MIA, which has caused her to become a little obsessive over him. But hey lets face it I would obsess over him too!

Meghan gains more exposure to the Fae part of her origin thanks to Cade when he finally makes an appearance. He gifts her with a Merlin for her birthday so that she has her own spirit guide and he can then take Fergus with him back to Elie. She learns to care for the little bird and the bird becomes her protector. Meghan goes to Eile on three occasions over the course of the novel and Meghan begins to learn more about herself, her magic and her origins. She also learns a little bit more about the mysterious Cade. I admit I fell in love with Cade. I didn't think I could like him any more than I already did after Faelorehn, but what do you know I was wrong.

In terms of pacing, while the last book worked to set things up this novel has a lot more action and a lot more going on. We learn a lot more about the characters and their world of Eile.The bulk of the action takes place in the Otherworld while the mortal world is relatively calm. Don't mistake me, I don't consider Meghans encounters with the fae creatures in the mortal world to be calm by any means, but the amount of action between the Otherworld and the mortal world are very different. Well I'm not giving out the details because I want to leave that to the reader to discover, but the ending left me anxious and waiting impatiently for the last installment in the series. I can't wait to join these characters again and to see just where things are going to go.
