About the Author
Mark Ciampa is Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Previously, he served as Associate Professor and Director of Academic Computing for 20 years at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee. Dr. Ciampa has worked in the IT industry as a computer consultant for the U.S. Postal Service, the Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service, and the University of Tennessee. He is also the author of many Cengage/Course Technology books, including Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals; CWNA Guide to Wireless LANs, 3e; CWSP Guide to Wireless Security; Guide to Wireless Communications; and Networking BASICS. He holds a PhD in digital communication systems from Indiana State University.

Mark Revels is an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky. He is a technology educator, researcher, and professional with thirty years of progressive experience including biomedical and hospital physical plant systems management; development and management of decision support, inventory control, and logistics systems; and development and management of core manufacturing systems for multiple international manufacturers. He holds a Ph.D. in Technology Management from Indiana State University. In addition, he also holds three industry certifications: biomedical equipment management (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), information systems (Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals), and manufacturing and operations management (The Association for Operations Management).

No On-line Exams Available as Advertised

The book itself is very general although it covers a wide range of topics. As of this writing, I have not yet taken the exam and can't comment on the author's ability to cover the required knowledge areas.

The advertised online exam material and practice exams are not available - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK if you want to use the online exams to practice. The publisher stated that this is a 2013 published book and while the book was released early, the online content and exams are not yet available through their website. The publisher includes an access code and website, although the content is not available when you attempt to use it. I spoke with Cengage and the customer service is poor.

There are now multiple books published on this subject and I would recommend trying one of those - as I stated, the content is vague and there is no online practice exams or content as advertised by the authors and publisher.

I took and passed the CompTIA+ HIT-001 Exam today. If you are intending on purchasing this book for this exam, please review Appendix A as it has the exam objectives outlined nicely. There is additional information in this book that is not covered on the exam and will distract from the core objectives needed for the exam.

Finally passed!!

I took the Healthcare IT test 3 times and failed each time because the information that I needed to pass the test just wasn't available. Someone told me about this book by Mark Ciampa, so I ordered it. After studying for two weeks with this new material, I was able to finally pass the test! If you are looking to pass, you WILL need this book. It is everything you need to know!

Good Information but not enough for passing the exam if you...

Few days ago I took and passed the CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam. However, I did not rely on this book alone to get prepared for the exam.

Although I have some educational background in Computer Information Systems - but neither IT certificates nor hands-on technical experience in IT field - I felt that I was not going to pass the exam relying on this book alone after I finished it and did all the chapters' quizzes and exercises. Thus, I used another e-book and hundreds of practice questions (about technical IT and health care) from a web site.

The book itself has good information about information technology (IT) and health care. It does cover nearly all the topics of the exam's objectives. Its chapters and topics are clearly mapped to the exam's objectives which you can get from "[...] You can use the book to learn about the IT in health care if you are working in health care field or enrolled in health care certificate/degree program but have no plan to take CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam.

However, If you are planning to take CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam, then this book alone is not enough to help you pass CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam if all of following situations apply to you:
1. You do not have enough solid educational background in IT or Computer Science that enables you to tackle various technical IT issues including, but not limited to, hardware/software installation/troubleshooting and computer networks.
2. You do not hold any IT certificates; particularly technical certificates
3. You used other studying and preparation material but failed to pass CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician exam.

Great purchase!

I am a PT with 4 years of experience. I found this text as an invaluable resource to reference pathologies while studying for the OCS and my residency tests. Additionally, the clinical reasoning chapters were great to help build a foundation from which to approach a clinical examination. This however is not a "how to book" on how to sequence your examination. It is as it says 5 books in 1. Part 1 had decent background on tissue healing, radiology, pain behavior, biomechanics, etc. Part 2 and 3 had solid orthopedic reasoning and orthopedic pathology sections that are well-referenced. Haven't used the pharmacology or rehabilitation section much frankly. Moral of the story, for the cost, you most likely won't find a more helpful text. But, you will need to take the time to sit down and work through it to really get your money's worth. But using it as a reference tool alone is worth your cash.

This is a fantastic book!

I would highly recommend this book to any student or clinician who is interested in a book to help them improve as clinicians. It is written in a manner to provide quick bulleted information to the clinician and organized in a manner that is logical and easy to find. Clinical guidance is provided by some of the leaders in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation. The orthopedic pathology section should be a great help to any clinician because it provides valuable information regarding each pathology and provides information on which tests are the best, how long it should take to recover, and which interventions may be the best to help facilitate recovery. Overall, a great book and extremely valuable to both students and clinicians. Buy it, you won't regret it!

"Lemonnier (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France) addresses debates in anthropology on the role objects play in the lives of their makers and users. A proponent of the cultural technology (technologie culturelle) approach to material culture, Lemonnier focuses on the ways that objects contribute to the sharing of values and to the social relations of the people who engage with them. Using four examples, he argues that objects of everyday use can be just as meaningful as works of art or ritual objects. Three of the examples--garden fences, eel traps, and drums--come from the author's fieldwork with the Ankave and Baruya peoples of Papua New Guinea. The fourth stems from the author's experiences as a collector of model racing cars.... About the Author
Pierre Lemonnier is a Director of research at the CNRS (Centre de Recherche et de Documentation sur l’Océanie, Aix-Marseille-Université, France). He conducted repeated field research from 1978 to 1982 among the various Anga people of Papua New Guinea and has worked on numerous topics including war and peace-making, and the anthropology of technology. In 1982, he chose an Ankave valley for long-term anthropological fieldwork, to which he regularly returns. He has been recently involved in debates on lost tribes with the media and has written a book on sorcery and cannibalism among the Ankave (Le sabbat des lucioles, 2006). His other fields of interest are the interpretation of the Ankave and Baruya male initiations and the comparative study of Anga cultures. Pierre Lemonnier has published several books in the field of the anthropology of technics (Elements for an Anthropology of Technology, 1992, and Technological Choices, 1993), as well as numerous articles.

The Single Best Book on Lacanian Technique and Theory

It is a well known fact for people who are interested in philosophy and psychoanalysis that Slavoj Zizek has sent shokwaves in both communities. Zizek has almost single handedly re-introduced Lacanian Theory into the mainstream of the English Speaking world. However, those of you who try to read Lacan directly or even those of you who try to use Zizek to understand Lacan will either:

1) Not Understand what is going on (as is the case with Lacan) or 2) Some concepts will become more clear but other ones will become even stranger (as happens with Zizek). Alternatively, one can choose to read the various books written by Bruce Fink, who is very good but proceeds to be somewhat cryptic with Lacanian "Mathemes" too quickly.

I have searched many books on introductions to Lacanian Theory on different fields, and I would ironically say that the very first book that I ever read on Lacan, namely Lacan For Beginners by Philip Hill (which happens to be a comic-book-type-book yet is suprisingly clear and thoughtful) has remained, for a long time, the best introduction I've ever seen. However a comic book can only take you so far, one needs more elaboration.

For a long time I was stuck and could not move beyond Bruce Fink who was satisfactory only to a degree. One day I took Hill's comic book and looked at the suggestions for further reading and found, to my utter shock and surprise, that Mr. Hill had written a book called "Introduction to Lacancian Clinical Technique", that I had never seen at various bookstores or even at Amazon.com. Given that Mr. Hill had been, by far, the best "Lacanian" I ever encountred I was very puzzled to not see this book more widely circulated.

So I came to this website, searched for this book by name and was at first hesitant to purchase it because of the huge price tag. However, as I looked into the book, and given that I felt frustrated with Lacanian theory I took a brave leap and purchased it.

I must say that I do not, in any way, regret purchasing this book at all, to the contrary: This book is by miles the best introduction to Lacan available. Not only is it clear, it introduces terms like "Need, Demand and Desire" "The Symbolic, The Imaginary and the Real" "The Psychotic, The Pervert and the Neurotic" and practicaly all Lacanian clinical terms in ways that make these terms completely comprehensible without eliminating the thought that went behind them.

To make this book even more easy for reading, Mr. Hill has many subdivisions in every chapter that helps a person grasp the ideas. I can now finally say that I understand Lacan in ways I never thought I would. Granted with this comes quite a few doubts I have with Lacan's theory, but it nevertheless remains quite interesting and thought provoking.

It is sad that this book is not more widely circulated, as it is, as the title says, a book meant for clinicians. However, should this book ever come back at a mass scale to publication, I would, without a shadow of a doubt start here for Lacanian theory and then proceed to read either Mr. Fink or Lacan himself. If you are committted to understanding Lacan, like I was, then I would recommend you purchase the book for the price you find it in. That is until someone realizes what a real treasure Mr. Hill has produced, and changes there mind.

One of the most important, and yet least publicised, components of the front-line Luftwaffe was the Schlacht, or ground attack, arm. This book details the Schlacht units who were in the thick of the fighting from the first day of the war until the last. They played a vital part in the heady successes of the early Blitzkrieg campaigns and went on to perform an equally essential role in the dark hours of last ditch defence and ultimate defeat. In between, they fought in all defensive battles: on the eastern front at Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin; in the west, by night, over Normandy, the Ardennes and the Rhine.

Average history of German airforce strike forces

This book provides a history of the German airforce's ground strikeforce from the end of WWI, through the interwar years, to the end of WWII. The history is at a relatively high level (considering the book's 128 page length a good idea) as opposed to a tactical and operational level. Tactics and operational strategies are not discussed much though the evolution of the aircraft, in broad strokes, is. If you are looking for an account(s) of individual actions this is not the book for you. The book is also a little weak regarding performance, weaknesses and strengths of ground attack forces along with factors contributing to successes and failures. Personnel recruitement and training are barely discussed and coverage of aircraft development is only touched upon.

The book also contains about 7 pages of color plates of all the major aircraft used in the ground attack role. Camo patterns for all the aircraft throughout their operational lives are provided, from early in war (and interwar years, including Spain) to the end. Hence for the model builder this is not a bad reference.

Exciting Tales of Dangerous Low-Level Luftwaffe Missions!

There were fewer deadlier, more dangerous missions than the ground attack missions flown by the Luftwaffe's ground attack (Schlacht) fliers. Operating a variety of aircraft ranging from Ju 87s to FW 190s to biplane Gotha 145s and Henschel 123s, the Schlachtfliegers were in the forefront of action from 1 September 1939 till the final, bitter struggle over Berlin. The story of these daring fliers is nicely told in yet another of author/illustrator John Weal's books for Osprey.

Schlacht units were active on all fronts though their greatest challenges, successes and ultimate failure were met on the Eastern Front. Operating in an incredibly target-rich combat arena, outstanding pilots like Hans Ulrich Rudel ran up incredible totals. Rudel accounted for 519 tanks alone; three other pilots notched up 100+ tank kills. Rudel lasted the war but few other Schlacht pilots were so lucky as the Russian AAA defenses grew steadily deadlier. Though coverage of the Eastern Front takes up the bulk of Weal's book, he also relates Schlacht experiences on the Western Front and in the Med.

The exploits of Luftwaffe Experten have been given greater coverage than the missions flown by ground attack fliers. Weal's book is a welcome addition because it redresses the balance somewhat by relating the incredible efforts made by Ju 87, FW 190 and Hs 123 pilots to support their comrades on the ground. Dozens of photos and 12 pages of color profiles and insignia help illustrate the many and varied aircraft used by these intrepid fliers.
